The feeling of procrastinating our work and having rest in bed is a common behavior in many people. It is a disorder which includes escaping from the harsh realities of the world, staying in the comfortable space and having rest in bed all the time. The bed and the blanket serve as a protector from the difficulties one has in their life. This term doesn’t have medical recognition but it is a chronic inability to get oneself out of the bed.

Symptoms of Clinomania / Signs that you might have Clinomania

If you are spending a lot more time in bed than your usual time, it can be a symptom of Clinomania. According to researches, bed should only be used for sleep and sex, and not any other activity that can interfere with the sleep routine. As adults should have 7-8 hours of sleep so a lot more than that can take you towards clinomania. Alongside symptoms can be extreme fatigue, drowsiness or sleepiness during unusual hours.

Clinomania can also develop along with other psychological disorders like depression and stress. Depression includes isolating oneself, feelings of loneliness, hopelessness and helplessness, lack of pleasure, weight changes fatigue and troubles in sleeping like insomnia (lack of sleep) or hypersomnia (extreme sleep). So, if a person is suffering from depression then it is possible that they might even develop clinomania if the symptom of sleeping troubles is not managed properly.

Many physical health issues which make one to stay in bed and rest can also contribute in developing clinomania overtime. No matter how much they sleep and rest it will never be enough. They always feel tired and sleepy all day long. People often stay absent from their family, social and work life as they get no fun out of it.

The most common are:

Staying in bed as long as possible

Facing severe difficulty while getting out of the bed

They have mood swings

They don’t experience fun when they have to go out

They are called crazy, lazy or procrastinator by everyone

They stop self-grooming

They face sleep disorder either insomnia or hypersomnia

How to deal with Clinomania?

The main problem of Clinomania is spending excessive hours in bed and treatment should aim at this only at first.

1. Or if the person is avoiding any social contact because of any type of fear or insecurity, bullying, abandonment or grief then proper treatment should be taken to solve the main problem. As an adult, 7-8 hours of sleep is enough to function properly and to keep physical and mental health completely fine so that must be included in that consistent sleep schedule. Also, don’t do any activity on bed besides sleep and sex so that one can sleep at the defined time as hormones will start releasing at that time only.
